Important Data Center criterion You Should Know

Over the last 4 decades, Business growth and technological advancement encouraged each other towards further advancement .Whenever there is a business requirement, technology always stepped up to provide an effective solution. Technology changes the way the world conducts business, now huge amount of money is invested in new hardware and software has resulted in information technology (IT) infrastructure that gave a company a dynamic state. Hence over the years companies that have been most successful in sustaining are those who evolved according to the technology available which helps in reducing cost and complexity.

Data centers have been around right from the beginning of computers, specialized workspace and experts for operation made them special and now data centers are extremely important topic and top priority of businesses, this has led to emergence of many difference metric, standards and certifications to determine the efficiency of data centers.

Here are some of the metrics, standards and certifications that companies should consider while making data efficient data centers:

  • PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) – Its shows how effectively your data center using energy. It is the ratio of how much energy consumption is taken place to run the data center components (like servers) vs how much energy is going to spent on whole data center.
  • CUE and WUE– It is the compliment to PUE, CUE (Carbon usage effectiveness) looks for carbon emission associated operating of data center and WUE (Water usage effectiveness see’s how efficiently a data center is using water.
  • PAR4– Its measures the server power consumption in different ways like including monitoring idle power, peak power, total power utilization, and transactions-per-watt.
  • ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) – ASHRAE is the American society which publishes specific guidelines and standards for temperature and humidity in a data center.
