Modul’Data Center announces the launch of its Next-Generation Modular Datacenter : the Modul’Room

Aix en Provence, FRANCE, June 15th, 2011

Modul Data Center, a division of private company IPenergy, specialist of IP Communication Infrastructures, announces the worldwide pre-launch in Bucharest last week of its Next-Generation Modular Datacentre, the Modul’Room.

The Modul’Room is composed of a durable metallic shelter (with available length range of 10, 20 or  40 feet), manufactured to its own design, allowing to fully comply with the Datacenter Industry Best Practices. This modular datacenter is the result of several years in Research and Development, and integrates all the  experiences of Modul’Data Center teams in supplying and designing Datacenters.

The advantages of the Modul’Room are, among many :

-          Datacenter Surface Extension at will by “hot-coupling” together 2 or more Modules, without interrupting the production and without opening the active shelter on the exterior (patented system)

-          IT Power Scalability from 20 to 480 kW per Modul’Room i.e from 2 to 16 kW/m² in power density, with a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) below 1.2

-          Fast deployment of your datacenter anywhere in the world and in any kind of environment, even extreme situations like polar or desert conditions : 3 to 6 months from ordering to starting up, compared to 12/18 months for a “classic” datacenter

-          Construction and Operational Costs are much lower than a Brick and Mortar Datacenter, allowing to invest exactly according to the actual demand; Modul’Rooms are also perfectly suited for setting up Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.

The worldwide première presentation of the Modul’Room, MR20 model, equipped with 6 racks 600/800 mm wide and a modular cooling system, has been made last week in the World Trade Centre of Bucharest, in presence of numerous international companies including famous Banks and Telecoms Operators. The representatives of these companies (IT and Facility Managers) were the very first to visit the Modul’Room MR20, after a short discussion on the Challenges of Modern Datacenters and the concepts behind the Modular Datacenter Design, by the Sales Manager of IPenergy,  Mr Olivier   Paulhiac. Who declared: « the Modul’Room represents a concentrate of our know-how and expertise, and thanks to outstanding building quality, we are able to offer a Next-Generation Modular Datacenter that goes well beyond what can be found on the market today, getting rid of all the gaps and errors in design and urbanization pregnant in other products of this type. For example, our Modul’Room offers real 1.2 meter wide corridors, in front of as well as behind the racks and above all, a total scalability in terms of IT Power (by adding more cooling systems while still operating) as well as in terms of total surface, by coupling together 2 or more modules without stopping production either. »

Comments received from the large audience, vividly interested by the design and enthusiastic about the overall quality of the shelter, have been very favourable. Says the IT Manager of a famous Telecom Operator after visiting the Modul’Room « Everything that needed optimization has been done, and your product offers a real differentiation compared to everything else I have seen before. Your Modul’Room is really what I was waiting for, and offers a real scalability, notably in terms of hosting area, and that changes it all! We have to reconsider the way we conceive our datacenters as well as the way we sell them, internally or to our clients. It is not simply square meters or racks anymore, but rather we should offer higher Power Density measured in efficient kW per square meter, or else in taking into account the cost of construction in Euro per watt of IT Power available…».

The Modul’Room indeed represents a revolution in the design and construction of datacenters, allowing to set up in any place hosting infrastructures or IT back-up services, quickly, without heavy investment and in line with the actual, local demand.

Modular data centres are designed to be "off the shelf" to be placed in any climate location. It would prove to be much more cost effective to have the modular centre designed for a particular location i.e cold climate/hot climate or taking advantage of local conditions by considering the use of wind power, solar energy or sea water.
